“The Void” F. Sherry St. Germain (Prefix Premiere)

Cage will release a single, the Sherry St. Germain-assisted “The Void,” next Tuesday, April 3. And while a new release from Cage is always something to get excited about — if only because dude doesn’t flood the market like so many of his peers — this one is especially important for the Middletown, New York City native.

It finds him reuniting with DJ Mighty Mi, who worked with Cage as part of the High & Mighty in the late ’90s and early 2000s. You might recall that they actually beefed for some time in the mid-2000s, which resulted in a diss track on Cage’s classic Hell’s Winter.

They have clearly deaded any of their past issues and are ready to move forward with “The Void.” The track does away with the boom-bap vibes you might have expected and instead embraces a synth-heavy, EDM sound courtesy of Mighy Mi. That might read like an odd combination on paper, but Cage more than makes it work spitting dark, drug-referencing rhymes over the thrusting production.

You can stream the single via the widget below. It drops April 3 on Tribute Recordings.
