The Strokes’ Angles has quietly slipped from view following its March release, with many critics agreeing that it sounded like the band was running on fumes as it entered the new decade. Julian Casablancas brought his group to Jools Holland’s show last night (May 17) where they performed a coupe of cuts from that new record. “Under Cover of Darkness” is one of the standout songs but still suffers from sticking a little too closely to that familiar Strokes template, while “Taken for a Fool” has “unremarkable album track” written all over it. The best thing about this performance? Undoubtedly Casablancas’ bizarre choice of footwear.
