If you are among those old enough to remember cassettes – the meticulous precision you had to employ to make a perfect mixtape, the way that hours and hours of work would literally unravel with the tape itself, the sheer impossibility of fitting the whole list of songs on the paper “label” – then this video of The Strokes reminiscing about music in the pre-MP3 era will bring up memories. They cover everything from very first songs they ever recorded (Albert: "The Hula Hoop Song" by the Chipmunks; Julian: "Hippie Chick" by Soho), to favorite childhood music (they all liked hair metal) to the stuff they’d put on a mixtape today (Grizzly Bear, Crystal Castles, Beatles). And all the while, everyone seems really fun and open. Except for Julian, who spends the whole interview with dark shades on…but even he has his moments here. [Billboard]
