The Streets: "See If They Salute" (MP3)

Can anyone keep up with Mike Skinner’s bountiful supply of new (and free) Streets songs, all delivered via his Twitter feed? New Yorker critic Sasha Frere-Jones has provided a concise summary of the action so far: four songs (“I Love My Phone,” “Trust Me,” “David Hassles” and “Long Working Day”) have been delivered in the last week, most of which sound far better than the recent Street album, Everything is Borrowed.

Skinner released the fifth song in the set today (April 21), titled “See If They Salute.” He asks “am I killing time or is time killing me?” over a sampled guitar riff that sounds very familiar. As Frere-Jones points out, any samples on these songs are likely to be uncleared, giving Skinner a freedom that he could never enjoy within the tight constraints of a major label.
