Austin's Strange Boys might be the perfect welcome party when SXSW rolls around this year. Or at least a great party starter. Their lo-fi psychedelic rock is grimy and infectious. And while it might not be the most original sound, since it lines up with the likes of Black Lips, this is still rock music with an energy you can't fake. And Strange Boys bring that energy in jagged spades. This clip for "Woe is You and Me" from their album The Strange Boys...and Girls Club gives off the perfect dark, hole-in-the-wall club atmosphere that coats the Strange Boys' sound like gravel. If you head over to Fader, not only can you watch this video again, but you can download another Strange Boys' tune called "Heard You Wanna Beat Me Up." The band may slow the pace down a touch on this one, but they don't lose their messy zeal singing about the awkward situation of crossing the wrong dude. The Strange Boys...and Girls Club will be out March 3 on In the Red.
They're really fun.
