“The Shakedown”

Yellow Ostrich’s The Mistress was one of the most overlooked records of 2010. Those that did heed its call were treated to band leader Alex Shaff’s penchant for immaculately layered vocal harmonies and unexpected song structures. This year sees a new Yellow Ostrich record on the way, titled Strange Land, which is Yellow Ostrich’s first since becoming a full band. “The Shakedown” is a sample both of the new record of that more fleshed out, full band sound, and it reveals some previously unheared bitchin’ guitar tendencies and a spontaneity that was lacking on The Mistress‘ layers upon pre-planned layers. Listen to the song below, and catch Strange Land when it’s released on Barsuk Mar. 6. [YANP]
