The Ponys, one of the finest Chicago bands of the previous decade, is back on the road for the first time since supporting its 2007 Matador debut Turn the Lights Out. The band's first new song since that release, "Check The Dooor," has been made public. The track abandons the Richard Hell-style vocals that had typified Jered Gummere's singing on previous Ponys releases, a switch that actually aids the slowed-down sound that the band has been approaching since adding Brian Case at guitar.
"Check the Door" will be released on the Deathbed + 4 EP, released digitally on April 20 and on 12-inch vinyl on May 25, both via Matador. The band will be touring the U.S. beginning in April, with a key date at Millenium Park on May 24 with the Besnard Lakes.
