This is more like it. Back in February, the New Pornos released the crushing "Your Hands," a good song that lacked the New Pornographers' usual whimsy. But now here's the Neko Case-led "The Crash Years," a song with copious whistling, delicate pianos, and a mood ready for an indie-centric movie trailer. This is great stuff, which leads to hopes that the band's comeback album, Together, is all this fantastic. Listen over at Pitchfork.
The New Pornographers' Together is due out on May 4.
Neko Case's voice is so compelling. But is it really fair to have to call this a comeback? The band's first three albums were stellar, and Challengers was just great. What is the band coming back from?
I think it's disingenuous to put Neko on their albums. She hasn't toured with them for years and her solo career has eclipsed the band. Indie rock SAT question: Neko Case is to The New Pornographers as Feist is to _________.
Black Sabbath? I stink at analogies.
I guess it's a comeback insofar as they haven't had an album since 2007.
There could be a couple answers to that but The Smiths is the obvious one.
they're all coming back from kick-ass solo albums!
When the Pornographers opened for Spoon in the fall of 2007, Neko was with them. That was their last tour.
CRQ
comeback record? Where did they go exactly? And MFB, isn't it disingenuous for you to purport that you know anything at all about a member's active status?
frank
I don't get MFB's Neko comment: so what if she doesn't tour much with the band? And FYI, Kathryn Calder is pretty damn good in her own right. This song is stellar.
settle down. let's all agree that the new pornographers are outstanding artists and that neko case sometimes isn't with the band...and that duke sucks
