The new direction taken on certain tracks on the latest New Pornographers album, Together, has divided its followers, although any fans of whistling in song (of which I am one) will find something to love on “Crash Years,” which the band performed on Jimmy Fallon’s show last night (May 5).
This is an impressively tight performance that comes from a group celebrating its 13th year of existence—even if folks are non-plussed by the direction of Together, the band is still likely to be a compelling live draw. Is that whistling really live, though? If so, it’s amazing how all the whistlers remain in tune.
Is Destroyer absent from this performance?
