Come Nov. 22, 4AD will be releasing an alternate version of "Terrible Love," opening track from the National's stellar 2010 LP High Violet. The single, coming with the song "You Were A Kindness" as its b-side, comes on the same day that High Violet gets an expanded treatment. With rich, baroque strings, the alternate version of "Terrible Love" trades in visceral tension for implied tension. Check out the accompanying, Tom Berninger-directed video above, which is a bit of a behind-the-scenes look at a band of fun guys who are more known for their perpetual seriousness. It's also an excellent example of how a National song can give any image life and death stakes. [Pitchfork]
Now THIS is the "Terrible Love" I wanted.
Sounds great. Saw them recently, and "Terrible Love" was the encore. I wouldn't have predicted the song to be such a rager, but now I see what they were thinking.
