Take a look at the peak chart positions for the National’s High Violet on Wikipedia and you’ll see that they’ve quickly become one of the most popular rock acts in the world over the past year. Sure, no one is actually buying albums right now, but there aren’t many other reliable barometers to measure popularity by in the music world, and those top five positions in the U.S., the U.K., and Canada certainly look impressive (what's up with France?). Anyway, the group headed out to David Letterman’s show last night (Feb. 1) to perform “Conversation 16” from the record, which is a grerat demonstration of their lean rock sound and may even squeeze a few more sales out of High Violet.
