This is going to be a busy year for the National, and the band has already traveled to foreign shores to promote High Violet—this time appearing on Jools Holland’s show in the U.K. to deliver this live version of “Bloodbuzz Ohio.” As our Andrew Winistorfer notes in his review, this is the sound of a band on a terminally upward curve.
Judging from this performance, the band is already well rehearsed for the impending live onslaught this year. The beautifully melancholy horn sounds blend perfectly with the somber nature of the track, and a slow-build guitar buzz peaks perfectly toward the end of the track. Expect to see and hear much, much more from Matt Berninger and his brotherly band this year.
