The National: "Ashamed of the Story I Told" (Audio)

This is the second song to be heard from the upcoming album Ciao My Shining Star: The Songs of Mark Mulcahy. This cover of a Polaris song boosts the tempo of the original, but strings and piano give the song the tragic gloom at which The National excel. As Thom Yorke did with "All for the Best" for the same album, The National have taken a Mulcahy song and sounded perfectly themselves, a tribute to Mulcahy's songwriting and a good sign for the album.
