In its brief existence, the Dead Oceans label has had a great run of albums, and if the first preview of the Mt. St. Helen's Vietnam Band's forthcoming eponymous album, is any indication, then that run will continue. "Anchors Dropped" is an energetic bit of indie rock, gnarled up with noodling guitar lines and drums that change pace on a dime. Singer Benjamin Verdoes proves a very able frontman as he moves between energetic belting and exhausted mumbles. The song is sure to draw comparisons to Wolf Parade and their ilk, but there is a heartfelt charm and organic looseness to the track that makes it unique to this promising new band. Mt. St. Helen's Vietman Band is due out March 10.
