Mountain Goats man John Darnielle had a special treat for his 25,000 Twitter followers yesterday: He posted a leak of a new acoustic jam called "Thucydides II-58," which you can hear over here.
Like all things Mountain Goats, this should come with a reading list: Thucydides was the historian of the Pelopennesian War, whose standard for history basically created modern historical documentation. What does that have to do with this riveting acoustic song by the Mountain Goats? I don't know. But Darnielle says the song was taken from a new concept project he was working on, but later abandoned. He also promises the announcement of a new project soon. Maybe it's time for his concept album about Greek historians? [via Stereogum]
