The Mountain Goats: "Genesis 3:23" (Live On Fallon) (Video)

· by

The Mountain Goats and their Bible-influenced "Genesis 3:23" brought a churchy dance vibe to Jimmy Fallon last night, as John Darnielle and company were somehow able to get Fallon's typically stiff crowd to get swaying like they're backing up the Polyphonic Spree.

I don't hold a PhD in Late Night Wars or anything, but Fallon is probably going to be the next host of the Tonight Show, since he's essentially just hanging in here, doing his show like no one cares. Just expect his booking of indie rock bands like The Mountain Goats to drop significantly once he takes over in 2017. [Stereogum]

I haven't been that into the MGs lately, but I like this song. Does anybody know what Genesis 3:23 is all about?

I like his older Lo-Fi stuff better.
The verse is when God banished Adam and Eve from Eden for disobeying Him and they were forced to work for their food rather than have it come easy for them.

This strikes me as a much more even, but still high-energy, performance than that "Psalms 40:2" from Cemetary Gates. Great stuff.
