The Mountain Goats

"Genesis 3:23" (MP3)

John Darnielle says he hasn't had a religious awakening, but he has been reading his Bible. This song about regret and nostalgia for a past home fits the passage it's named after, which reads, "Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the Garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken," in the King James version (from BibleGateway.com). But Darnielle sings about breaking back into his old house and getting away with it, and I think Eden has better security. So take a breath, because it still sounds like the Mountain Goats, not Christian rock. [My Old Kentucky Blog]
