Brooklyn (by way of Berkeley and San Francisco) band The Morning Benders have hit their stride at the perfect time; their sunny AM pop fits in nicely with their pals the Girls, and the open schedule of one Grizzly Bear member (Chris Taylor, who partakes here) when the band was recording its sophomore album, Big Echo, means that they're poised for a big break next month when the album comes out. Hearing tracks like "Excuses," which is streaming at Pitchfork, makes it seem nothing less than totally earned. The song sways with a Phil Spector-vibe, and the a capella breakdown two-thirds of the way through is as unexpected as it is resplendent.
Big Echo is due out on March 9 via Rough Trade.
