The skewed pop of Memphis band Magic Kids enchanted most folks who saw them on tour with Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti over the past few months, and now this video for “Superball” from Memphis is here to further tug at our heartstrings. Clearly, this is a band held in thrall to sumptuous Phil Spector productions and the songwriting chops of Burt Bacharach.
The video makes a suitable accompaniment to Magic Kids’ bubbly tunes, with lots of color and the requisite ‘80s split screen visuals that every clip of an upcoming band must have in 2010. If they could shake of such herd-like affectations, Magic Kids could seriously broaden their audience, because “Superball” is a damn nigh irresistible two-and-a-half minutes of popped out bliss.
