The Lonely Island: "Boombox" ft. Julian Casablancas (Stream)
I was willing to buy Lonely Island as a short-form SNL video group, but now that they've got a full-length album coming out (titled Incredibad, out tomorrow via Universal), the group's starting to wear on me. "Jizz In My Pants" was pretty funny, "I'm In A Boat" featuring T-Pain less so, and now there's this less-than-funny song, titled "Boombox" featuring Julian Casablancas of the Strokes singing about old people dancing to songs from a boombox, and then deciding to get freaky (which, as Casablancas says, is totally nasty).
"Boombox" might have worked better as a clip on SNL, but as far as just audio goes, it's worse than pretty much all of Lonely Island's output so far (it's way too obvious, and is kind of trite), and less funny than anything by Flight of the Conchords, who are Lonely Island's unofficial competition. I have to disagree. Julian's voice reminds me why I miss the Strokes (start the new album already). I'd love to see this get a video and a full on push by Universal to get on Alt Radio. Great melody, great voice, I can't stop listening to it.

Andross. I'm gonna go out on a well-supported limb here and say that you are undeniably out of touch with what is funny. As a comedian and a member of the global comedy audience, I'm not the least hesitant to say you're considerably ignorant when it comes to the structure of comedic delivery, expectation, and absurdity and I hope you soon discover what it means to understand humor in 2009.

This is the best song on the album, and musically is way better than Flight of the Conchords, and I love them! This is just a good song, period.
