So we've heard about The Knife's score for Danish performance group Hotel Pro Forma's opera based on Charles Darwin's On the Origin of the Species. Tomorrow, In a Year debuted in Denmark last September. The ambitious double disc soundtrack for the project, which is a collaboration between the Knife, electro-pop outfit Mt. Sims and experimental multi-instrumentalist Planningtorock, just got a track list and release date. The Knife has just released the first taste of Tomorrow, In a Year, and boy, is it epic. The 11-minute "The Colouring of Pigeons" is available for download at The Knife's website for the price of your email address. It isn't any of the glacial avant-house the group perfected with 2006's Silent Shout. All of the synths have been swapped out with moaning voices, maudlin strings, tribal drums and, well, operatic singing. Great stuff, nevertheless. Serious fans can also snag Tomorrow, In a Year's libretto right now over at the Hotel Pro Forma website. [Stereogum]

The Knife is one of those bands beloved by critics who actually deserve all the adulation. This is a phenomenal track, I can't wait to hear the whole thing.

I haven't gotten the download link yet. But in general I like the song-for-address agreement.
