Say what you want about The Killers (like that they're bad, for instance) but they have a sense of theatricality that isn't really seen much these days. The band played "Spaceman," which I guess is about a man from space or something, on Leno last night, and they performed on a Vegas-looking stage with a lit up "k" in the front, while Brandon Flowers does a crazed preacher shtick donned in his feathered coat (which I assume is to facilitate flight). There's not many bands who would perform with such sense of grandeur on late night TV.
"Spaceman" is one of the band's worst songs however, since it seems constructed entirely our of random mad-lib non-sequiters that Brandon Flowers pulled out of a shoebox as he was recording the vocals. Not that some great songs weren't constructed the same way (like songs by Joy Division and Talking Heads), but Flowers' poetry can be refered to politely as "sophomoric" and "meaningless."
"Spaceman" is on Day & Age, which is out now.

Listen you clueless bastard, "spaceman" is a great song. Hundreds of thousands of people love that song including me. Seriously, can you please tell me what you and all of you other prefix "writers" have against them? Did they turn down an interview from you goofs? You were right about one thing in this article, the Killers never do anything lackadaisical. That performance was grade A stuff. You make me sick Andrew. However, I am glad you finally learned how to use spell check. Your finally starting to actually look like a real writer. Yay!
