The Killers "Human" (Embedding Disabled)
The Killers are one of those band worshipped by some as much as they are hated with a fiery passion by others. Last night's SNL appearance will do nothing to change minds of either camp. Featuring shoulder blades straight out of 13th century (via 1986), Brandon Flowers and the rest of The Killers performed two songs off their upcoming album, Day & Age. They also turned the stage lighting into equalizers (take that, Metallica!) In "Human," Flowers continues his trend of hoping his robotic facial expression and movements will draw Ian Curtis comparisons. It probably helps that the rather bland song waxes pseudo-philosophical with lines such as "Are we human/ or are we dancing?" (Can you guess by now which camp I am in?)
"Spaceman," which features some rather unnecessary lines about anal probing, is ironically the more human performance. Flowers was off throughout the song, but his lack of perfect singing actually gave him some character that he's been long lacking. Too band the song itself is completely perfunctory. (Though the line about aliens "leaving my butt tight" will sure appease the frat boys who haved challenged Flowers's masculinity.)
If you enjoy the Killers, though, this will be amazing, so the video is enjoyable either by transcendence or schadenfreude. Day & Age will hit stores November 26, though knowing the way music is consumed these days, "stores" most likely means background music of Urban Outfitters than Virgin Records for you, dear readers.
