While by no means a big success, we at Prefix were rather impressed by the 2009 debut album by L.A.'s The Inevitable Backlash, who have yet to face their namesake. Perhaps the time has come with their NSFW video for "Gives You Hell," a cover of the 2008 hit by the All-American Rejects. The original version was solid, if generic mainstream pop rock; the latter version features the kind of guitar drone and fuzzy production that indie fans have come to expect.
And the video for the cover...well, let's just say I can't imagine MTV showing a video of pornographic actress Sammie Rhodes jumping on a trampoline with pasties that'd make Janet Jackson blush, eating a banana with a Gorilla-suited stranger in tow (even in their heyday).
The "Gives You Hell" single was released yesterday, and the song, like the video, is slow paced in a way that makes it quirkier, but less accessible than the original. Than again, it may be better if this video doesn't go viral. (Hey-o!)
