With Cat's Eyes on hold for the time being (sadly, the band had to postpone their two May U.S. dates), Faris Badwan is back to his main gig as frontman for The Horrors, the black-clad U.K. five-piece that's releasing their third album, Skying, via XL Recordings on July 26.
If leadoff single "Still Life" is any indication, the band's upcoming LP will mark a slight departure from the blaring psych-rock/shoegaze explorations of their brilliant, Geoff Barrow-produced sophomore effort, Primary Colours. That by no means is a knock, though, as Badwan and his brooding crew channel Disintegration-era Cure with a tinge of Echo and the Bunnymen to create a mid-tempo number anchored by a shimmering synth line and Badwan's croon. It's polished, pretty, almost upbeat and a nice portent of what's to come. You can also check out The Horrors' full summer/fall touring schedule here.
