The Horrors: "Sea Within A Sea" (Video)

· by

Think The Horrors are sub par English goths? Think again. This surprisingly great new track, which is close to eight and-a-half minutes long, sees them heading in a totally different direction. Krautrockers Neu! have clearly exerted a sizable influence over the band, who perform the song amid a Pink Floyd-esque kaleidoscope of colors. There’s even an introduction from an austere English gentleman, reminiscent of the kind of TV presenters you always see on old Floyd clips.

“Sea Within a Sea” really kicks in around the four-minute mark, and is taken from the Horrors’ forthcoming Primary Colours album. The boys have also considerably muted their appearances, with the big hair and eyeliner now a thing of the past. Spending large amounts of money on hairspray is so not cool in Recession ‘09.

Whoa, they hardly sound like the same band. I kind of liked their debut in waves, but this is way better.

Yeah, totally. Also, I just realized that the opening of the song is pretty much a note-for-note rip off of Can's "Mother Sky."

Holy smokes, you're right. They're more than sort of close.

This is indeed great. I liked their old sound, but this is a nice development.

Who IS the man who introduces the clip? Anyone famous?
