The latest track to surface from the upcoming Velvet Underground tribute album, The Velvet Underground & Nico by Castle Face and Friends is the Fresh & Onlys' take on the Nico-fronted classic, "All Tomorrow's Parties."
The Fresh & Onlys' keep the tune simple, completely nixing the looping, thunderous piano riff of the Velvet's original in favor of a heavy, over-accentuated bass line. Filling the spaces left by the absence of the song's signature riff are vocals awash in delay and atmospheric synthesizer leads. It's the least true-to-form track to surface from the tribute album, to be sure, but functions as a fitting reinvention of a track long haunted by the shadow of the Velvets' near-perfect original rendition.
The Velvet Underground & Nico by Castle Face and Friends will be released on Nov. 6 and the limited vinyl-only release has sold out in presale. Check out two previously released cuts off the LP — Ty Segall's take on "Femme Fatale" and Blasted Canyon's version of the racy "Venus In Furs."
