Pitchfork has been busy charting the making of the Flaming Lips' Embryonic with this special documentary on the album showing on Pitchfork TV over the past couple of weeks. Now comes this video for "The Sparrow Looks Up At The Machine," which was clearly shot during the same sessions.
It's strange that the band has decided to have another go at using this as an emblematic track from the record, as they already produced a video for it a while back. But it's a difficult album with no obvious singles, so perhaps they're hoping this brightly shot performance clip will connect with people, or maybe they just wanted to fully utilize all that documentary footage. Either way, this is an affecting dip into the kind of melancholy terrain that Wayne Coyne and his band does so well.
