The Flaming Lips

"Anything You Say Now I Believe You" (streaming)

Average Rating: 7.50

Know Your Mushrooms is a forthcoming documentary about, yes you guessed it, mushrooms. The film is directed by Ron Mann, and follows mushroom gurus Gary Lincoff and Larry Evans as they explain exactly why they have such an attachment to the strange edible (and delicious) fungi.

The film is set to a soundtrack by the Flaming Lips, and the band has generously posted a song from the film on its MySpace page. “Anything You Say Now I Believe You” resembles the quieter moments of The Soft Bulletin, and bodes well for the band’s long awaited new record.

Some bleepy electronica combines with gently thumbed acoustic guitar and great washes of noise, with Wayne Coyne occasionally surfacing to sing about common Lips themes such as the sun, the moon and outer space. It probably does sound very good on mushrooms, but this post was written on nothing stronger than a cup of tea and some leftover Super Bowl chips n' dip. [via You Ain't No Picasso]
