One of the biggest highlights of ATP New York in September was seeing Nick Cave performing with the Dirty Three. Cave was in New York to promote his The Death of Bunny Munro book, and took time out to play piano with the band members as they performed their Ocean Songs album.
Pitchfork also commandeered the band and Cave, squeezed them into a hotel room at Kutsher’s Country Club, and shot them performing this moving version of “The Last Horse on the Sand.” It’s artfully and appropriately shot in black and white, and Warren Ellis gets so carried away that he leaps onto a bed at one point. Now that’s rock & roll.
