The Decemberists showcased a track from Hazards of Love on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno last night (May 14). Colin Meloy and his band performed “The Wanting Comes in Waves,” which twists into odd prog rock territory before building to a huge climax that even causes the Leno producers to hit the audience with some strobe lighting.

Hazards of Love has met with mixed reviews, and Meloy's rock opera has polarized his audience. Isolating one track from it to play on a late night talk show doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, but it’s likely that Meloy’s bosses at Capitol Records are eager to get a return on their investment.
