Everyone knows “Down by the Water” by The Decemberists at this point—they’ve certainly brought it out for enough video performances. But here it comes again, this time recorded for a session on QTV, in a stripped-down format that at least marks a slight change of pace from all the other times they’ve aired it. This version really digs deep into the folky origins of the track, and it also has a catchy, commercial feel that partly explains why The King is Dead has connected with a far wider audience than previous Decemberists records.
