Colin Meloy brought The Decemberists to Jay Leno’s show last night (Jan. 20), where they performed this version of “Down by the Water” from The King is Dead. There’s no appearance from Peter Buck, who features on the recorded version of this song—presumably he’s too busy prepping that new R.E.M. album—but you can hear the influence of his band circa Green all over the studied country-esque groove of “Down by the Water.”
