The sixth studio album by The Decemberists is titled The King Is Dead, and it's due for release on Jan. 18. But the band is already spreading the word about it, most recently with this appearance on Conan O'Brien's show last night (Nov. 18) to play "Down By The Water." Peter Buck and Gillian Welch both appeared on the single version of this track, and the latter showed up on Conan to lend a hand, ultimately serving to position this song somewhere between the country-rock duets of Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris and the folksy stylings of Neil Young's acoustic work.
