Clyde Stubblefield’s beat on James Brown’s “Funky Drummer” may be one of the most sampled pieces of music in history—and now he’s getting some payback via the release of this lavish Copyright Criminals box set. That release includes a selection of Stubblefield’s breaks and beats, a documentary, and even some all-star trading cards. To promote it the legendary drummer performed on Jimmy Fallon’s show last night (March 29) where he contributed to a version of Public Enemy’s “Fight the Power” with Chuck D, DJ duo Eclectic Method, and Questlove and Black Thought from the Roots. Anyone who’s remotely interested in drumming is going to geek-out hugely on seeing Questlove and Stubblefield performing together—and with good reason. Check it out in the clip above.
