Anyone who has seen The Books play live recently will be familiar with the visuals on this promo clip for “I Didn’t Know That” from The Way Out. Core band members Nick Zammuto and Paul de Jong seem to have spent the past year or two permanently dusting off old instructional tapes from thrift stores to use on the group's new record, and this video accompaniment has a similarly vintage feel.
Much of this clip is golf themed—yes, you can now improve your swing and listen to the glitch-heavy cut up sounds of The Books at the same time. The work of Stenski and Mass Media is an obvious touchstone here, but there are also layers of guitar noodling and rippling funk bass sounds that position this closer to the work of Tortoise in their TNT era.
