Nick Zammuto and Paul de Jong have a new album under their moniker as The Books ready for release, titled The Way Out. The band will play at ATP New York later this year as part of the promo duties to foist the album on the public, and they’ve also constructed this cut-up video for the oddball track “Cold Freezin’ Night.”
This harks back to the kind of fast-paced canter through a mass of found-sound samples that Steinski pioneered back in the ‘80s, albeit with added skeletal drum beats and other unusual scraps of noise and dialogue discovered by the Books. It bodes extremely well for The Way Out, which the group has said is based around samples drawn from self-help and hypnotherapy cassettes.
