The Black Keys ran through a couple of their unashamedly retro blues-rock numbers from Brothers on Saturday Night Live this past weekend. First up was “Tighten Up,” which is full of the kind of stodgy riffage and earnest vocal passages that has really become the band’s stock in trade, and that was followed by “Howlin’ For You,” which is driven by a thick analog keyboard backing. If you’re a fan of this group there are no surprises here, except perhaps for the appearance of Dan Auerbach, who looks all baby faced after shaving off his beard.
