The Black Angels just appeared as one of the main draws at this past weekend’s ATP New York, but they were whisked away from that anti-corporate event and into the mainstream last night (Sept. 7) with this appearance on David Letterman’s show. The band performed “Telephone” from the current Phosphene Dream album.
This was the network television debut for the Austin band, whose retro psych sound is markedly different to the usual Letterman fare, but might cause them to pick up a few fried fans of groups like the United States of America and the 13th Floor Elevators—the Black Angels have even worked with the latter’s Roky Erickson on a number of notable occasions.
