The 88: "They Ought To See You Now" (Live On Conan) (Video)

· by

LA rockers The 88 have a new eponymously titled album in stores, from which “They Ought To See You Now” is taken. The band performed the song on Conan O’Brien’s show last night (Nov. 17), demonstrating their clear debt to melodic singer songwriters like Elvis Costello and Nick Lowe. It’s short and to the point—the song barely makes it over the two and a half minute mark—but its probably a good job that they didn’t outstay their welcome because this is a band that is a little too in debt to their obvious new wave/British Invasion influences.

Wow, when did they release a new album? I've always enjoyed them. I've always wondered whose idea it was to put them in that one episode of How I Met Your Mother.

If any band can shake up today's catatonic pop music scene, it's The 88. This is is an explosive band that performs in a wide variety of styles and tempos, but Keth's Slettedahl's songwriting is what really stands out. No wonder they've become proteges of the Kinks' Ray Davies.
