“That Old Black Hole” (Video)

Here goes the first single off Dr. Dog‘s Be The Void, the band’s sixth LP to be released Feb. 7, 2012. “That Old Black Hole” sees the Philadelphia psych-rockers revisit some melodies and themes also present on their last pair of albums. But here, elephants, eggshells, unsteady boats, mysterious prizes and black holes all make appearances, which allows a kind of carefree, softly surreal folkiness to permeate. The video is mostly footage of a hamster struggling to run on his little wheel. The repeated lines of the chorus gain weight under this image and tie it to the song: “It’s like that old black hole, no matter how you try/ You set out each day never to arrive.” You can watch and listen to the video below.
