Telefon Tel Aviv

Helen of Troy [MP3/stream]

Average Rating: 6.00
Telefon Tel Aviv has signed to Ellen Allien's BPitch Control imprint, where crazy future quality is always job #1. I picture the label's HQ as a bulbous, Victor Lundy-like structure that also doubles as a giant stereo speaker. Telefon Tel Aviv'll fit right in. Immolate Yourself, the Chicago-via-New Orleans duo's third full-length, will appear this January from the silken mists, and harken a working shift for the duo from conventional guitars and Rhodes to the exclusive use of analog synths, supported by an array of tape manipulation. Everything that is old is new again, especially in these dudes' capable hands.

Check it:  Telefon Tel Aviv is streaming tracks from Immolate on their MySpace, and you can also ride the genteel beats and melodic bell curve of "Helen of Troy" right here. [Pitchfork]

Loved TTA's first couple albums, but I don't get this track. Is bland 80s dance-pop throwbackery the new big thing in electronica world these days?
