Tapes 'n Tapes: "Freak Out"
Tapes 'n Tapes are trying to recapture the loose energy that made them into a blog favorite in 2006 via their new album, Outside. First single, "Freak Out," certainly seems to find the band back in the strummy vibe of their first album as opposed to the blown-out psych sounds of Walk it Off. But still; there's something amiss here. Maybe they perfectly captured their magic on The Loon, and it's gone forever. Listen at Pitchfork.
Outside is due out on Jan. 11 via the band's Ibid Records. [P4K]

Wow, completely forgot about these guys. Pretty soon bands are gonna have to release something every year just to stay relevant. It's only been two years since that last one but it felt like much longer.
