One of the biggest weaknesses of Ghost, the debut record from San Diego's Tape Deck Mountain, was a general lack of focus, as they flirt between experimental indie pop and gothic post-punk influences. "P.I.," the latest song from the group, manages to meld those two sides of the bands sound incredibly well, finding a middle ground that has double the impact of either extreme. The chorus finds an overdriven, catchy guitar riff unfurl into sinister chords without ever really changing a note, which is pretty impressive. "P.I." is part of the band's upcoming Secret Serf EP, which is due Jan. 11. Check out the track here. [Fader]
