When this new Talib Kweli leaked a few days ago, I referred to the fact that the Khrysis-produced "I'm On One" wasn't the best track heard from Gutter Rainbows so far. But I also noted that it was indeed growing on me after repeated listens. And after checking out its video, I can safely say I'm now a fan of the cut. Much of the thanks for that goes to director Niim The Dream, who combined live footage and rapping-in-a-dark-room shots to complement Kweli's direct, kind of-grimy approach. Also, after seeing how wild it gets when he performs this live, I get the feeling I, and you, will appreciate "I'm On One" even more when it's turned all the way up.
Gutter Rainbows is due out Jan. 25.
