Talib Kweli announced his plans for Gutter Rainbows in September when he tweeted that he was putting the finishing touches on the record and that it was due soon. Well, I guess "soon" means about five months or so as we won't be hearing it until January. But it's tough to complain about the wait when the project's first leak, "Cold Rain," finds Kweli spitting with such tenacity. The way he rides the piano-heavy production from Ski Beatz makes repeated listens a necessity. First, you get lost in his flow, then the beat, and finally the lyrics.
Gutter Rainbows is due out Jan. 25, 2011 on Kweli's new imprint, Talibra.
