At their best, Takka Takka sound like inspired contemporary folksters. At their worst, they sound like nothing more than indie pop flatulence. The latest track offered up leans more towards the latter, as it's the kind of smug, seflf-satisfied indie folk that goes nowhere fast and lingers on and on. "Everybody Say" has no business being more than 3 minutes, yet it goes on for nearly 5. If this is the state of the Brooklyn folk scene nowadays, I think I'm better off moving to Astoria.
Takka Takka performs in Union Hall in—you guessed it—Brooklyn (Park Slope, not Billysburg) tonight, before a few dates that never leave New York or Chicago except for a day trip to Madison. Migration, Takka Takka's new album featuring the lovely track "Everybody Say," comes out July 29.
