Two years after his profession was more or less deaded by Jay-Z via "Death of Auto-Tune," T-Pain returns next week with his long delayed rEVOLVEr LP, a record that promises less Auto-Tune and more actual singing. Judging by his performance on Leno last night, that might be true, and not just an empty promise: It features very little robot voice, and Pain sings without the benefit of Auto-Tune, and is backed up by a five person singing group.
That doesn't mean this thing isn't still sort of goofy--T-Pain discovered steam punk, apparently. But it's sort of interesting, because Pain is clearly trying to prove to people he knows how to sing. And I guess he really does?
