“Swing On Low” (Live On Jools Holland) (Video)

A new season of Later with Jools Holland just debuted in the U.K., meaning the coming weeks will be full of exclusive one-off performances of an eclectic array of artists. Chicago’s Willis Earl Beal was one of the performers on this week’s installment, bringing a version of “Swing On Low” from his recently released Acousmatic Sorcery. It feels like Beal is steadily creating his own lane and owning it, with this track drawing on a heady mix of old blues standards, a pop-fueled piano riff, and even some of the gruff vocal presence of Paul Weller during his days with the Jam. Which was appropriate, because Weller was also a guest on the show. Check out Beal’s performance below. [via CoS]
