The talent bookers on Carson Daly’s show must be avid music blog readers—how else to explain the double whammy booking of Los Campesinos! and Surfer Blood on his show this week? The latter were captured at the Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa, where they performed this version of “Floating Vibes” from Astro Coast.
Despite their tender years, Surfer Blood is a band enamored with ’90 indie rock—close your eyes and “Floating Vibes” could be any number of bands opening up for Pavement back in the day, desperately clinging to the coattails of their obvious idols, but never quite reaching the level of inspiration Malkmus and other luminaries from the era thrived on.
A pleasant song.
one of my favourites on astrocoast, twin peaks is probably my #1 though..
I think some of you guys need to get off of this thing with Pavement, or Weezer, or whomever else you think you need to compare this band to. At this point in Rock History, everybody's already heard everything, so we can put that thread to rest.
When I hear this band, what I hear is honesty and passion. That's what really matters... along with the great guitar work and the rest. That's all that matters.
